The short answer

An AI companion robot does not have one lifespan. It has at least four: the physical hardware life, the battery life, the software-support life, and the cloud-service life. The shortest layer can determine the useful life of the whole product.

Casio publishes unusually clear Moflin battery information: a 1,200 mAh lithium-ion battery, up to about five hours of use, and roughly 3.5 hours to charge under stated conditions. That is useful for daily planning, but it is still not a battery-longevity guarantee.

3. Software and app life

Companion robots often need apps for setup, updates, photos, journals, naming, volume, accounts, or new behaviors. App-store compatibility can end even when the hardware still turns on. Check whether firmware files, manuals, and recovery instructions remain publicly available.

4. Cloud and service life

Open-ended conversation, remote video, face recognition, memory synchronization, and generated content may use cloud services. That disclosure is valuable because it makes the risk visible.

Every buyer should ask the same question of every brand: what can the robot still do in airplane mode after the manufacturer's servers are unavailable?

Warranty length is not product lifespan

A warranty describes defect coverage under conditions; it does not promise continued software service or free repair for normal wear.

Give one point for each answer that is public, specific, and applies to the exact model:

  2. Core behavior works without internet access.
  3. The charging dock is included or replaceable.
  4. Battery service is documented.
  5. A public manual and firmware path exist.
  6. Warranty terms identify duration, exclusions, and process.
  7. Parts or repair channels are available in the buyer's country.
  8. The user can delete or export cloud data.
  9. Memory behavior is explained separately from marketing language.
  10. The company describes what happens when a service ends.

A low score does not prove a robot will fail. It means the buyer is accepting more unknowns.

Memory and longevity are connected

The more a robot “remembers,” the more important data continuity becomes. Ask where identity, preferences, interaction history, and personality state are stored. Local state may disappear after a hardware failure. Cloud state may survive a replacement but depend on the provider. A good ownership policy should explain backup, transfer, deletion, and reset—not just memory depth.
